Welcome to The Story of Our Ancestors! This is a brand-new blog sharing the stories of people I have discovered through researching my family history. Not all the individuals I intend to write about are relatives of mine, but many different voices from the past who may have been overlooked for one reason or another.
I paid to have a WordPress blog in order to try to encourage myself to take blogging and writing more seriously. I had a few ideas on what type of content I would like to add, but the plan is just to get started writing and hopefully over time I will get the hang of what I am doing. Please do bear with me. I have a habit of turning into Alice chasing the White Rabbit rather than focusing on the task at hand.
The blog is going to start off with the 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks challenge. You can find out a lot more about that on Amy Johnson Crow’s website: https://www.amyjohnsoncrow.com/52-ancestors-in-52-weeks
Mixed in with these weekly challenges, I hope that I can add other content that will be of interest to you, the reader. I want to share with you some wonderous stories! A little reference there to something that has always inspired me, the stories told through music (the reference “Wonderous Stories” by the band Yes). Though I definitely will not be sharing any music I have written with you, but I may add other pieces of creative bits and bobs.
A huge thanks to the friends who have nudged me in this direction (especially towards the 52 week challenge) and to those who have had to endure my many FAN stories (that’s Family, Associates and Neighbours for those who are not familiar with family history jargon). I have been very lucky to have met a wonderful network of people over the last few years in lockdown through a shared passion of family and social history.
And finally, a thanks to you for taking the time to read this first blog post. I really do appreciate it! Best wishes to you for a healthy and happy 2022. Stay safe and hopefully you will return to read more wonderous stories!
Now I just need to stay focused… I must resist putting on my Alice shoes and diving head first down that rabbit hole!
